SuperboSuperbo Web: was http://superbo.com.au
- not working OpinionsA
current darling of Fitzroy St, this mellow eatery eschews blond-wood uniformity
and casts its own orange and chocolate minimalist mould. Long, lamp-like drop
lights and the cool slashing of ceiling fans. Seventies? Sure, but we don't remember
it being this cool. But not so cool that a mixed crowd can't appreciate bruschetta
($6.50) with thick, char-grilled bread, the sweet, caramelised flavour of onion,
pumpkin and sweet potato and the salty strength of goat's cheese. Noughties' comfort
food - mashed potato supporting both a juicy continental sausage ($8.50) and a
crisp skinned salmon with a mustard seed and lemon aïoli ($22) - takes us
straight back to mum's kitchen. Friendly, relaxed staff make you feel at home,
but can become overworked as the space fills up. The wait for dessert is worth
it, with a ginger and stout pudding ($9.50) reminding us of the ginger-snap biscuit
taste of childhood..
